Symonds Yat

Driving across the country the results of the rain and snow are evident. The Nene was over its banks and about a quarter of a mile wide in places. At Symonds Yat on the Wye in Herefordshire the hand pulled ferry that links the east and west banks had been left stranded between a fence and a wall by the falling waters. When we woke on our first morning the river's turgid torrent rushing through the gorge had dropped about a foot. However the second morning revealed a rise of about 4 feet
overnight.

It's quite amazing how quickly the waters can rise and fall; in fact quite frightening, and they certainly don't want any more rain round here for a while.
